#5 - The Photoshoot

#5 - The Photoshoot | I know, I know - you have all been waiting for me to post up some more pics of Steve McIntyre's guitar. Everybody just calm down a little - here they are. Seriously, I am so pleased with the way this guitar turned out. When I look at it and play it, I can't believe it is something I made. I hope Steve is enjoying his guitar and I hope you enjoy the pics.

When I set all this up, Jill said, "You know this is the same thing you do when you are taking pictures of your daughters!" So here is a pic of Sara with her new little sister.

When Steve first picked out the wood, I wasn't sure how it would all finish together. I think we did purty good. I love the overall vibe of this one.

The design of the Multiscale/Fan-Fret just kind of punches you in the face (in a nice way) with all the offset angles and such.

That figured walnut on the back and sides is just gorgeous.

The finish is an "open pore" finish. Most of the time, the pores of the wood are sealed with some kind of filler in order to make all the surfaces super smooth for a completely flat, mirror shine finish. I like leaving the pores "open" - it adds to the hand-did spirit of the guitar and I think it gives a unique looking finish.

A few shots of the herringbone rosette - very old syle "Martinesque" vibe. But with all the modern internal design and such it is very "Noveau Cowboy."

This is the shot right after it fell of the stand onto its side. (Just kidding Steve)

The highly flamed maple binding all around adds real pop and sparkle. Pictures don't really do it justice.

I made the end wedge from some cut off from the back plates that I joined off angle and bound with the flamed maple.

Another pinless bridge design. Both the bridge and the fingerboard are made of rosewood.

Some closeups of the bound fingerboard. This one detail is what makes this guitar look like a high dollar item. The maple is iridescent and pictures just do not capture the magic. The fret position markers are custom made from the same rosewood of the fingerboard.

The heel cap is a 4 ply lamination - mahogany from the top, sycamore, walnut from the back, sycamore - all the woods from the guitar.

The heel is carved with a more modern feel on the traditional shape.

A view from the players perspective. I did Steve's choice of the all black tuners - they are locking, auto-trim tuners which makes string changes super easy and give a good clean look to the headstock.

The magnetic truss rod cover is three ply laminate - walnut, sycamore, rosewood. Tiny detail, but gives that little extra pop and dang!

The back veneer is a figured sycamore and rosewood. Adds a little bling.

Just as the beauty of a hand-did guitar cannot be fully captured by the photos, neither can the joy of owning and playing one!
