Hand-did instruments, created one at a time, each with its own unique voice.

[Small builders] have a challenge and an opportunity…
I believe the craft is moving forward because of small builders.
I think the small builder is where we are pushing the envelope.

~ Michael Hornick (Shanti Guitars) ~

Hand-did,
One at a time

Uniformity
is the plague of sameness
.”
~ John Coykendall ~

Words like “bespoke” and “hand-crafted” are too fancy for me. “Hand-did” seems to fit a little better and captures the spirit of my rustic work. Because I am not a professional builder, I have the freedom to build the guitars I want to build, one at a time, focusing on each instrument as a unique creation.

Tradition /
Innovation

"Without tradition, art is a flock of sheep without a shepherd. Without innovation, it is a corpse.”
~ Winston Churchill ~

Building unique instruments often pushes against what is accepted as “normal.” Tradition teaches us some of the limits of our craft; innovation calls us to push and strive for what could be - the most excellent instrument possible. Why make the “same ole thang” when better things are yet to be built?

For the Joy of it…

A thing of beauty
is a joy forever
.”
~ John Keats ~

The craft and art form of luthiery combines the visual and the aural; We want instruments that look handsome and sound mellifluous. From the way the wood feels in the hand, to it’s responsiveness, to effortless tone production, the goal is to make instruments that create joy.
